Kigunja Village: Mr. Wambedde the School Teacher
Kigunja Village

Once upon a time in Kigunja Village, there were school-going children; Kamukama and Nabirye.

Kamukama was coming from a relatively poor family while Nabirye was from a well-to-do family.

Kamukama’s grass-thatched home Nabirye’s well-furnished home

Kamukama lived with his grandfather Mr. Opolot after the death of his parents. Every morning before going to school, Kamukama would first go to the garden.

While there, he would help his grandfather in all ways possible including carrying a three-liter water jerrycan with him on their way back home before preparing for school.

Grandfather: My grandson, study hard and pass well so that you do not have to go through this

Kamukama: But Jajja, I love farming.

Grandfather: True, am not saying it is bad, but the world is changing, and you need to study and learn improved farming methods

Kamukama: Okay Jajja, I promise to do my best and pass.

Grandfather: That is it, my king, I love you

After the gardening, Mr. Opolot would prepare Kamukama’s breakfast, help him to dress up, and afterward pack for him roasted cassava to eat during break time

While going to school, his grandfather would ride him on a bicycle as their means of transport.

Kamukama: Jajja, I hope to drive you in my car one day.

Grandfather: True, my king dreams do come true if we work hard to achieve them.

Kamukama: I will work hard to achieve them.

Nabirye’s home

Nabirye lived with both her parents; Mr. Okoth and Mrs. Okoth

Every morning, Mrs. Okoth would go to Nabirye’s room and sing for her before awakening her.

Afterward, they would talk about what had happened throughout the night whether it was sweet dreams or nightmares before taking her to have a bath.

Mrs. Okoth singing:

Every time you wake up my little princess, I cannot stop thanking the good angels that protect you for me. I love seeing that beautiful smile on your face.

Nabirye: (Smiling….) Love you, mummy.

Mrs. Okoth sings to Nabirye in her bedroom.

After bathing, Mrs. Namukasa would dress up Nabirye in a well-ironed uniform, prepare breakfast for her as well as pack bread and butter plus mango juice to take during break time at school.

Mr. Okoth would then proceed to drive them to school in his luxurious Mercedes Benz

Nabirye: Dad, how was your first day at school?

Daddy: Hahaha, why are you asking? Are you scared? Because this is, just a new term and you have been there before.
