Analog Concept

Chapter 01
THE ANALOG CONCEPT
Blindly following others and doing what we are told without asking questions is considered a virtue. It's as if our environment and the community have no room left for creativity and original thought.
It is very hard to convince a parent that education is merely a means of broadening a child's horizons and not a guarantee of success. I am not saying that there are no successful educated people, my point is the relevance of education to life and how the knowledge acquired from school can be put to good use in the real world.
The individual or group of people who set it up that children have to go through an education system for more than twenty years just to look for a job must have had their own motives. What about being equipped with the knowledge and skills to think and come up with your own projects and inventions?
It is impossible for a child to go from Nursery through Primary and Secondary school without conceiving certain ideas in their mind. We receive many brilliant and inspired ideas in the course of our lives but the lack of confidence that we pick up from a society that trains us to toe the line ensures that we don't do anything about them. So we beg. We walk the streets with written or typed application letters asking for jobs from companies, some of which were started by people with little to no formal education. What they have instead is the knowledge necessary to thrive in adverse conditions, they believe in themselves. They are extremists who are convinced that if they do not go the extra mile, they will get nothing. They either help themselves or are doomed.
Meanwhile, those of us who have gone to school are fixated on getting a good job with a good salary so that we can live a good life. The moment we are done with school, we prepare our CVs and applications and begin the job hunt. Then we get married and have children who repeat the entire process. It never occurs to us that we could be the ones giving others a salary.
If there is going to be a change in the way we live our lives, it is going to start with a revolution in our minds. According to author Jim Collins, "Revolution means turning the wheel."
We need to open ourselves up to new ideas. We don't need to learn everything, what we need is the right people instructing and advising us. Learn to make inquiries and consult people who are more knowledgeable than you. It doesn't mean that you don't know what you are doing. It just says that you are not ready to make mistakes that can be avoided.
For instance, let's say you've started up a business providing the same product as a company that is already established. How are you going to compete with them? You have to find something that will distinguish you in the market whether it is excellent customer care, attractive price discounts, or even warranties.
I enjoy watching movies because of the profound things that are often put in the mouths of the actors. In Prison Break season 5, Michael Scofield said, "it's not what is in my eyes that matters but what is behind them.''
When you look at something, see beyond what you are staring at. There is beauty and negativity in so much that is around us, it is up to us to figure out how to use what we have to get what we want.
Let's consider for a moment the person who came up with toilet perfumes. As everyone else was looking at the toilet simply as a place they go to "do their business," this individual saw a financial opportunity in making the places smell nice. They reaped huge profits from their idea while at the same time making people's use of the toilet much more comfortable.
You are probably thinking that I am not being realistic - someone can't just wake up one day and start a business. That may be so but no one can stop you from coming up with a good business idea. Sometimes you don't need cash and assets. All you need is to study your environment and devise solutions to the existing problems.
Many people give it a try and give up simply because their first attempt was not the resounding success they were expecting. How do you look at failure in your life? For those who are determined, failure simply means that they have discovered something that does not work and so they can rule it out in their future attempts.
"Giving up is the only sure way to fail." Gena Showalter
"Only those who dare to fail greatly can ever achieve greatly." Robert F. Kennedy.
